Am I Eligible?

At Corporate Angel Network (CAN), our mission is to help cancer patients, as well as bone marrow and stem cell donors and recipients. Eligibility is not based on financial need, and patients may travel as often as needed.

To Travel with CAN, Participants Must:

  • Be a cancer patient traveling for treatment, consultation, check-up, surgery, clinical trial, or second opinion; or a bone marrow or stem cell donor or recipient

  • Be traveling to recognized treatment centers as listed with the National Cancer Institute, Commission on Cancer or the American College of Surgeons

  • Be traveling to treatment within the United States for medical care

  • Be medically stable and able to travel safely without medical assistance while onboard the aircraft

  • Be able to walk up and down aircraft stairs independently

  • Be able to travel without an oxygen tank, IV medication, or medical assistance during the flight

+ What should I know before requesting a flight?

  • There is no cost to patients for CAN-arranged flights
  • Flight requests should be submitted at least 10 business days before the appointment or discharge date
  • CAN arranges travel within the continental United States
  • Every flight depends on corporate aircraft and partner availability
  • Luggage space is limited to one carry-on and one checked bag; additional baggage needs will be reviewed when travel is arranged
  • CAN exhausts all options to find a flight match, but flights cannot be guaranteed
  • Because flights cannot be guaranteed, patients should have back-up travel arrangements in place

+ What are the medical requirements for travel?

To travel with CAN, passengers must be medically stable and able to travel safely without medical assistance while onboard the aircraft.

  • Medically stable for the duration of travel
  • Able to travel without oxygen, IV medication, monitoring, or medical assistance onboard

CAN will contact your care team to verify that you are able to travel safely.

Please note: CAN flights are not air ambulances and cannot provide emergency medical transport.

+ Can I travel with a wheelchair or walker?

Because CAN flights take place on business aircraft (not commercial airlines), passengers must be able to:

  • Walk independently
  • Walk up and down aircraft stairs without assistance
  • Board and exit the aircraft independently
  • Remain seated safely during the flight

Mobility Devices:

  • Collapsible walkers or manual wheelchairs may be permitted
  • Motorized wheelchairs and scooters cannot be accommodated due to aircraft battery safety requirements.

+ What medical equipment can be brought on board?

Some medical devices may be permitted if they are part of a regular routine and do not require care, monitoring, or adjustment during the flight.

Examples include: CPAP/BiPAP machines, insulin pumps/glucose monitors, hearing aids

Reviewed case-by-case: portable oxygen, infusion pumps for stable therapies, feeding tubes (not active during the flight)

Not permitted onboard: IV therapy requiring active care, oxygen tanks, devices that require in-flight monitoring or supervision

+ What identification do I need for travel?

Passengers must have a REAL ID or passport to travel.

The patient or travel companion should be able to communicate in English during the trip.

+ Can someone travel with me?

A caregiver or companion may travel with the patient when an additional seat is available.

Companion guidelines:

  • Adult patients may travel with one adult companion (18+)
  • Patients under age 21 may travel with up to two adult companions (18+)
  • Companions should be able to provide any needed support throughout the trip

If additional seats are needed, CAN will work with the corporate partner to determine availability.

+ Can you fly friends or family members to visit me?

Unfortunately, no. Corporate Angel Network flights are arranged for cancer patients and bone marrow/stem cell donors or recipients. Only a friend or family member accompanying a patient can be transported.

+ Not sure if you qualify for a flight?

If you are unsure whether you qualify, please contact our office at (914) 328-1313 and a CAN representative will help guide you through the process.
