The Wings Club Donates $50,000 to Corporate Angel Network

Recognizing 25 Years of Dedication to Cancer Patients

New York, NY—October 26, 2007—Corporate Angel Network (CAN), the national public charity that arranges free flights to treatment for cancer patients by using empty seats on business aircraft, was presented a $50,000 check today in a ceremony held during the Wings Club’s 65th Annual Dinner-Dance at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.  The award is in recognition of CAN’s 25 years of public service to cancer patients by arranging more than 27,000 free flights to treatment in the empty seats of business aircraft.

During the award presentation, John Slattery, President of The Wings Club said  “It is with a sense of profound gratitude for the mission Corporate Angel Network takes on every day that the membership of the Wings Club and its Board of Governors make our first donation to CAN.”

“While I’m the one accepting this recognition on behalf of CAN, I’d like to recognize CAN’s staff and those CAN board members who are here tonight.”  said Corporate Angel Network’s Chairman, Randall Greene, who is also Chairman and CEO of Safe Flight Instrument Corporation.  “As a CAN board member for 10 years and an occasional CAN pilot for nearly 20, I believe the most lasting impression I’ve gathered from this mission to cancer patients is the reinforcement of that well-observed truth, that in giving, it is the giver who receives.”

When diagnosed with cancer, a family’s life is changed forever.  Treatment options and financial concerns are just part of the critical decisions that must be made.  Many of those decisions center on acquiring the best possible treatment available and how to get to those locations, no matter how far away from home.

Often a cancer patient’s immune system is not equipped to fight off infection and exposure and commercial travel is not an option.  A simple cold could seriously jeopardize a cancer patient’s life.  For many cancer patients and their families traveling for medical reasons becomes a major financial burden but with the help of Corporate Angel Network, travel can become a less stressful part of their lives.
