  HOPE FUNDS FOR CANCER RESEARCH HONORS CORPORATE ANGEL NETWORK AT NEWPORT FUNDRAISER  

“Extraordinary compassion towards cancer patients and their families”  

White Plains, NY (September 10, 2007) – Hope Funds for Cancer Research recognized Corporate Angel Network with an Award for Excellence at their inaugural Gala on August 25th. The Gala, a dinner dance held in a private Newport, RI mansion, was attended by approximately 200 guests. Other awardees were: Sir Paul Nurse, 2001 Nobel Laureate in Medicine for his work in cancer research; Dr. Antonio Grillo-Lopez, for his life-extending work in non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma; Dr. Judah Folkman, for his discovery of anti-angiogenesis; and Paula Kim, founder of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Bonnie Le Var, President, accepted the award on behalf of Corporate Angel Network acknowledging the “participating corporations and fractional owners who have generously offered cancer patients comfortable, stress-free rides on their business flights.”

In 2006, the Hope Funds for Cancer Research was formed by a concerned group of individuals to establish a funding vehicle that would take a rational scientific, medical and investment approach to granting money to the most interesting and promising research efforts to address the most difficult-to-treat cancers including pancreatic, lung, liver, sarcomas, esophageal, brain, gastric and ovarian cancers www.hope-funds.org/.

About Corporate Angel Network

Corporate Angel Network arranges free flights to treatment for cancer patients using the empty seats on business aircraft. Since its founding 25 years ago, CAN has grown to include 530 participating corporations, five paid staff, and a team of 50 part-time volunteers who work with patients, physicians, corporate flight departments, and leading treatment centers to coordinate medical travel needs of cancer patients with the scheduled flight activity of participating corporations. To date, CAN has arranged more than 25,000 flights and currently provides more than 200 patient flights a month…2,500 a year. CAN has received numerous awards in recognition of its service to cancer patients, including The Volunteer Action Award, the highest volunteer award from the President of the United States.
