Flying Magazine Raffle Winner Donates Proceeds
to Corporate Angel Network
Flies Cancer Patient home from Treatment a Few
Days Later
White Plains NY, (Immediate)—This year’s winner of
the FLYING Magazine Raffle, Greg Cook of Makanda, IL, donated his
winnings, a Dodge Dakota pickup truck and a Bombardier Recreation
Products, Sea-Doo RXT Watercraft, to Corporate Angel Network (CAN),
the national public charity that partners with corporations and
fractional owners to transport cancer patients to treatment using
empty seats on routine corporate flights. A few days later, he flew
a cancer patient home to New York from treatment in Dallas in his
company aircraft.
“I’ve thought about the raffle quite a bit this week
and have decided to donate the proceeds back to the Corporate Angle
Network” said Greg Cook, a cancer survivor whose company, Cook Sales,
Inc. participates in CAN. “When I bought the raffle ticket at NBAA,
as I have for several years now, it was for one reason, to support
this wonderful organization. I hope the savings provided will help
CAN continue to grow and to help others. I, personally, am a 23
year cancer survivor of stage 2a Hodgkin's, diagnosed on December
22, 1982, which also happens to be my wedding anniversary” continued
Cook. “On December 22, 2005, I flew a CAN patient from Dallas to
New York. I can think of no better way to celebrate that day.”
“There are two areas where we always need assistance,”
said CAN’s Executive Director, Peter Fleiss: “funding, and additional
lift capacity. Greg managed to hit on both areas within one week’s
time. Greg’s support, combined with others in the aviation community,
is instrumental in our ability to continue to help cancer patients.
We are extremely grateful.”
Corporate Angel Network arranges free flights for
cancer patients using the empty seats on corporate aircraft. Since
its founding nearly 25 years ago, CAN has grown to include 530 participating
corporations, five paid staff, and a team of 50 part-time volunteers
who work with patients, physicians, corporate flight departments,
and leading treatment centers to coordinate medical travel needs
of cancer patients with the scheduled flight activity of participating
corporations. To date, CAN has arranged more than 22,000 flights
and currently provides about 200 patient flights a month. CAN has
received numerous awards in recognition of its service to cancer
patients, including The Volunteer Action Award, the highest volunteer
award from the President of the United States. For more information

diagnosis. About the flight Cook said, “I can think of no better
way to celebrate that day.”
