GREATER WASHINGTON AVIATION
OPEN BREAKS FUNDRAISING RECORD FOR
CORPORATE ANGEL NETWORK
Premier Aviation Event’s Contributions
Top $500,000 Mark
WHITE PLAINS, NY – Corporate
Angel Network announced today that the 13th Annual Greater Washington
Aviation Open (GWAO), the country’s premier aviation charity
event and a major fundraiser for the organization, set a record of
$83,000 breaking the half-million dollar mark in contributions since
the tournament’s inception. Corporate Angel Network is the national
volunteer organization that arranges free flights to treatment centers
for cancer patients on the empty seats of corporate aircraft flying
on business.
A broad range of aviation companies and professionals participated
in GWAO’s 13th annual golf and tennis tournament, held May 7th
at the Indian Spring Country Club in Silver Spring, MD.
In addition to tournament dollars, the GWAO raised further revenue
through a live auction of flights of fancy, business-class travel
packages to Europe and Asia, and first-class tickets and packages
to US destinations and resorts.
“We’re extremely excited,” said Thomas Robertazzi,
Executive Director of Corporate Angel Network. “The success
of the Greater Washington Aviation Open is a testament to the tremendous
support of the aviation community for our organization. In addition
to being the single largest fundraising event of the year for Corporate
Angel Network, the GWAO also helps to heighten awareness of our organization’s
mission.”
More than 2,300 aviation professionals, congressmen and senators,
government officials, and people from across the country and globe
have participated in past tournaments. This broad mix of people has
made the GWAO the largest gathering of aviation professionals for
a sporting charity event in Washington, D.C. and perhaps America.
Corporate Angel Network is a national public charity with only one
mission, to provide cancer patients with access to specialized treatment
by arranging free flights using the empty seats on corporate aircraft
traveling on routine business. Since its inception in 1981, Corporate
Angel Network has coordinated more than 13,000 flights for cancer
patients aboard member company aircraft and won numerous awards for
volunteerism, including two presidential citations. Corporate Angel
Network has attracted more than 500 of America's best corporations
into its network, including 56 of the Fortune 100. These companies
recognize that flying with vacant seats is an enormous opportunity
to help cancer patients win their battle.
