Corporate Angel Network Recognizes Westchester
County at NBAA Forum
Twenty-five Years of Westchester County Support
for Cancer Patients
White Plains, NY (April 26, 2007) – Corporate Angel
Network (CAN) today presented a plaque to Westchester County Executive
Andy Spano for the county’s long-time support of cancer patients
through CAN. The award, presented during the opening session of
NBAA’s Business Aviation Regional Forum, recognizes the support
of Westchester County for nearly 25 years of donated office space
to Corporate Angel Network.
CAN’s sole mission is to transport cancer patients
to specialized treatment or clinical trials using empty seats on
business aircraft. Since its founding 25 years ago, the organization
has grown to include 530 participating companies (including virtually
all of the business aviation organizations based at Westchester
County Airport), five paid staff, and a team of 50 part-time volunteers
who work with patients, physicians, flight departments, and leading
treatment centers to coordinate the medical travel needs of cancer
patients with the scheduled flight activity of participating businesses.
To date, CAN has arranged more than 25,000 flights and provides
over 200 patient flights a month.
“The support of Westchester County over the past
25 years has been instrumental in our ability to transport patients
free of charge. The generosity of Andy Spano, Westchester County,
and the airport embody the nature of CAN and we greatly appreciate
everything they do.” said CAN Executive Director Peter Fleiss.
NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen, Westchester Aviation
Association President Jeff Lee and CAN Board Member Wilson Leach
joined Fleiss in presenting the plaque.
"On behalf of NBAA Member Companies, we are proud
to be part of the outstanding service CAN provides those battling
cancer," said Bolen. “The business aviation community has long supported
CAN's efforts, and we are pleased to take part in recognizing the
people here at Westchester County Airport for making these efforts
possible.” Photo Caption: (L to R) CAN Board Member, Wilson Leach;
